The reading, the checking, and the first draft eat the day. None of it is the part that needs a lawyer, and all of it is the part that decides when you go home.
Half the day goes to shuffling tabs.
Legal teams are sharp. The tools around them are not. The practitioners we know best were spending more of the day moving context between ten tabs, three applications, and an inbox than they were spending on legal work.
Research lived in one database, files in another, drafts in Word, notes in an inbox. Every new session started with re-briefing whatever tool you opened next. The work was getting done. It was just buried under the shuffling.
So we built one agent that holds the whole matter. It reads the record, keeps the file briefed, shows the authority behind what it says, and stops before it does anything you would want to see first. We think that is how it should have worked in the first place.
Principles
Three rules, no exceptions.
- Cite, or say nothing.If a run cannot find support, it says so. An invented authority is worse than an admitted gap, and a product that guesses once cannot be trusted afterwards.
- Context survives the session.Re-briefing an agent every morning is a product failure, not a user habit. Memory belongs in the matter, not in whatever you can fit into a prompt.
- The last call is a person's.The agent takes the first pass. Approval is built into the run rather than printed underneath it, because a gate you can rely on is worth more than a disclaimer.
Who is building it.
8rney is a product of Aeternum Ventures, built in New Delhi by Abhimanyu Dhull and Aryaman Singh. We work with practitioners rather than at them: most of what is in the product started as a complaint from someone who had to do the thing manually the week before.
